Join our working group to shape our new community homes

Hey Everyone

Since we last met with our members in the second half of 2025, there has been a lot of positive progress happening behind the scenes. The team at Chilbolton Community Land Trust has been working closely with the parish council and their development committee to move our plans for new community-led homes forward. It’s exciting to see things taking shape.

One thing that is absolutely critical as we move into the next stage is that we need the voices of the people who might actually live in these homes. We’re starting to bring together a small working group of prospective tenants — people from the local area who might realistically want or need one of these homes in the future. This group would meet at the village hall one evening soon and help guide some of the most important decisions in the project.

Together we’ll explore questions like:

1. What types of homes would work best for local people?

2. What should they look like and what materials should we use?

3. How important are sustainable elements vs keeping the rents affordable?

4. How do we set rents so they stay genuinely affordable?

5. How do we ensure these homes remain for local people, in the village, in perpetuity?

Community-led housing works best when the future residents help shape it from the start. Your experiences, needs, and ideas can make a real difference. If you live locally and think you might benefit from one of these homes — or know someone who might — we’d love to hear from you and ask you to please ask around with people you know.

This isn’t a formal commitment to anything. It’s simply a chance to have your voice heard and help design homes that truly work for local people. Initially this would be one meeting with perhaps more opportunities in future months.

We know that your time is precious; once we have a small group we’ll coordinate a suitable date and time to meet at a mutually convenient time, perhaps something like a mid week evening at 8pm during April.
